Workshop on Youth Entrepreneurship

Isra University Entrepreneurial Society (IES) in collaboration with Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) arranged a one-day workshop on the topic of “Youth Entrepreneurship” on 24 April, 2013 at Isra University. The session was initiated with the detailed presentation on “Business Plan Development” by Mr. Ikhtiar Ali Khoso, Assistant Manager SMEDA in which he highlighted different aspects and components of business plan and specifically shed light on common legal problems faced by the young entrepreneurs when embarking on the new business venture. He emphasized on the legal and financial soundness of the business plan and asserted that these components will ensure the survival of the commercial endeavor in the competent marketplace. The session was then overtaken by one of the leading motivational speakers of Sind, Mr. Subhan Sharif who addressed the audience on “What it takes to be an entrepreneur?” He started the speaking session with a small activity on teamwork in which he engaged the participants. The session then proceeded with him speaking about the determination and consistency one needs to have in order to be an entrepreneur. He went on with different lifetime examples of entrepreneurs across the globe and their success stories. The session culminated with two amazing and meaningful videos about how much it is necessary for the young generation to invest their time in productive activities and focus on their goals. In the end, there was a fun activity for the participants based on a case study that highlighted the market analysis of a newly built town and its business prospects for the new businessmen. The students were then asked to develop a quick business plan encompassing all the essential features required for an effective and efficient business venture keeping in mind the distinct characteristics of the locality under consideration. The students were provided with supplies and were divided in three groups. The group with project “Desert Safari” stood first and the presenter from the group Iqra Fatima Yousfani was awarded a pen for her excellent presentation. The day concluded with certificate distribution among the 35 participants from the Department of Management Sciences by Saleem Ahmed Siddiqui , Deputy Secretary, Department of Youth Affairs and with the vote of thanks by Mr. Abdul Subhan Kazi, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Commerce Economics and Management Sciences, who congratulated the students for their extraordinary participation and interest in such activities and extended heartfelt gratitude to SMEDA and IES for their joint efforts in holding such an interactive and engaged learning session for the students.
