Profile of leadership


Prof. Dr. Nazir Ashraf Laghari, former Chairman and Head of the Department of Ophthalmology LUMHS, Jamshoro is an Ophthalmologist by profession. He holds DO from the University of London, FCPS – CPSP (Pakistan), FRCS from Royal College of Ireland, and FRC Ophth from Royal College of Ophthalmologists London. He is a pioneer in bringing the ophthalmic community together by reviving the ophthalmic society of Pakistan in Hyderabad. He has published more than 60 scientific research papers in national and international journals and attended International conferences on more than 110 occasions. He had been a former editor of the Scientific Medical Journal of Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (JLUMHS), Jamshoro, Pakistan, and is currently a patron of Isra Medical Journal (IMJ) of Isra University. He is a recipient of Meritorious Awards from the President of Pakistan and Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology. He is also a recipient of the Best Teacher Award from the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. He is the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement award on the outstanding services in the field of ophthalmology, by the Lahore Ophthalmic Society of Pakistan in December 2017 and another similar lifetime achievement award by the Karachi Ophthalmic Society of Pakistan in September 2018. He has served as the president of the Ophthalmologist Society of Pakistan Centre and Dean Faculty of Ophthalmology at the College of Physician & Surgeons of Pakistan. He has national and international memberships like PM&DC, CPSP, GMC, AAO, ASCRS, ASVRS, ESCRS, ESVRS, ESPO, ESM&O, and also Founding Director of Isra Islamic Foundation. He has remained tutor/guide/supervisor of more than 20 scholars for postgraduate degrees leading to Masters and Ph.D. (FCPS, FRCS). Registered to practice in Ophthalmology in Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, United Kingdom, United States of America, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Before joining as Vice-Chancellor at Isra University he was working as a senior consultant in Ophthalmology at Royal Gwent Hospital Newport, Teaching Hospital of University of Cardiff, South Wales, UK. He also served as Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Isra University, Hyderabad, and presently working as the Vice-Chancellor of Isra University.

Managing Director

Zaid Ahmed Laghari an ACCA part-qualified accountant with almost nine years of experience in accountancy and consulting firms, information technology firms, and security companies such as G4S London. In addition to this, he also has the experience of leading projects and administrative tasks for remote welfare ophthalmology camps arranged by welfare organizations. He is currently working as the Managing Director Isra University established pursuant to Isra University Act 1997 located in Hyderabad, Sindh province of Pakistan. The Isra University has 2 constituent colleges in Karachi (Al-Tibri Medical College) and in Islamabad (Al-Nafees Medical College). He was appointed during the turmoil period of the organization on terms to bring the organization back on its feet as it was being high jacked by individuals for personal motives. He oversees all non-academic matters of the University to ensure the smooth functioning of the University and its constituent colleges. He is also a member of Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) Pakistan, which is a committee formed by the local business community of the area to assist law enforcement agencies (LEA’s) voluntarily in regards to prevention of crime, data collections, data analysis, the performance of the LEA’s, an evaluation based on the data gathered. Previously He has worked as Head of Logistics in an information technology firm in the United Kingdom which was a company working on the research and development of data analytics and Artificial Intelligence (AI). He also worked for five years in the accountancy and consulting industry and has experience in assisting small-medium-sized companies during their incorporation process, in preparing and maintaining their books of accounts, and in preparing tax calculations ensuring compliance with HMRC rules and regulations. He has almost three years of experience working with security companies. He has worked with G4S and had the opportunity to be part of the 2012 London Olympics security team. He has worked as a team leader on this project and in coordination with the British Army and London Metropolitan Police. For the last 18 years, He has been voluntarily taking up the role of leading the administrative tasks of a blindness control program / an ophthalmology welfare camp which is executed every year in remote areas of Pakistan. Now, He is eager to work hard to normalize and stabilize the environment where ever need arises, presently his task is to harmonize the 3 campuses of Isra University which insha’Allah will be done in near future.

Chief Executive Director (Academics)

Prof. Abdul Sattar MemonBorn at Badin in the province of Sindh, Pakistan. Passed MBBS from Liaquat Medical College in 1978 as Best graduate of the year. Did MCPS in 1983 and FCPS in Surgery in 1985 from College of Physicians & Surgeons Pakistan. Achieved Gold Medal for the “Best Paper” at the 13th Annual Conference of the Society of Gastroenterology and GI Endoscopy in 1997 at Karachi. Achieved Best Teacher Award in 2002-2003 from Higher Education Commission Pakistan. Promoted as Meritorious Professor (BPS-21) on July 1st, 2006. Awarded fellowship of International College of Surgeons, USA in 2006 and Fellowship of American College of Surgeons in October 2008, FCPS Bangladesh 2008. Received honorary fellowship from north India Elected as President Society of Surgeons Pakistan 2010. Owes 81 National/International Publications to the credit. Elected as councilor and Regional Director of CPSP in February 2007 and re-elected second time in January 2011 worked as Senior Vice President and Treasurer CPSP. Worked as Professor of Surgery, Chairman department of surgery and Dean Faculty of Surgery & Allied Sciences, worked as Director postgraduate studies, Director Medical Research & Director PMRC Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences Jamshoro, Pakistan till January 2013 worked as Advisor to Vice Chancellor for Post graduate studies, Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences Jamshoro till August 2013. Worked as Director Postgraduate, Dean clinical sciences and Pro-Vice Chancellor Isra University Hyderabad Currently Working as, a Professor of Surgery & Chief Executive Director (Academics) at Isra University Hyderabad.

Dean (Faculty of Clinical Sciences)

Shafi Muhammad Jatoi, Graduated from Liaquat Medical College, Jamshoro, and passed FCPS from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan. He worked as Chairman, Department of Ophthalmology, and Director, Academics in Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamshoro. He served as General Secretary and President Ophthalmology Society of Pakistan, Hyderabad. Branch, for many years. He was awarded Gold Medal Award on Philanthropic Work by Isra University, Distinguish by Services Award, Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology, Syed Ramzan Ali Gold Medal Award, Ophthalmological Society of Pakistan, and University Best Teacher Award by the Higher Education Commission, Islamabad. He has more than 40 publications in the national and international Journals at his credit and has supervised many FCPS, MS, and DO Candidates in Ophthalmology. He is the author of the book “Clinical Ophthalmology”. He was Associate Dean Clinical Sciences at Isra University and at present, he is Dean Clinical Sciences, Isra University.

Dean Faculty of Engineering, Science & Technology

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Rafique Abro, is a Professor and an Engineer by profession with a wide experience in Teaching, Research, and Administration of more than 40-years and he has been associated with the University of Sheffield, U.K., Yanbu Industrial College, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Mehran University of Engineering & Technology, Bath University, U.K., Hamdard University, Karachi, University College of Engineering & Technology (Islamia University of Bahawalpur), Swedish College of Engineering & Technology, Rahim yar Khan, and now with Isra University, Hyderabad, in different capacities. He received a B.E. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Sindh in 1974 and a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Sheffield, U.K., in 1981. He received Post-Doctoral Training at the University of Bath, the U.K. in 1995 and he also rendered his services in the same university as Visiting Faculty. He is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Science & Technology.

Dean, Faculty of Dentistry & Allied Sciences

Prof. Dr. Zahid Iqbal is a graduate of Karachi University (Karachi Medical & Dental College) in Dental Surgery and a Fellow of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan in Operative Dentistry. Soon after graduation & FCPS residency, Dr. Zahid joined Ziauddin Dental College/Ziauddin University as a senior lecturer, Karachi. In 2010, after his FCPS in Operative Dentistry, he promoted to Assistant Professor and Consultant Restorative Dentist in Ziauddin University/Hospital. Later, he left abroad and started working as an Assistant Professor at the College of Dentistry/Qassim University Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Dr.Zahid joined Isra Dental College in 2014 as Chairperson/Assistant Professor where he was promoted as Associate Professor in 2016 and as Professor in 2019. Presently he is holding the position of Dean, Faculty of Dentistry & Allied Sciences, Isra University Hyderabad. Apart from this; he is a postgraduate supervisor and examiner of FCPS and MDS Program in Operative Dentistry at Isra University & CPSP. He is also a Consultant Endodontist and Restorative Dentist in Isra Dental Hospital and Dental Specialists Centre Karachi. He is also facilitated various continuing dental education programs in Isra Dental College. He has presented internationally in AEEDC 2013 Dubai and FDI 2017 Madrid Spain and in local conferences. He has a number of publications in national journals. He is also President of the Pakistan Association of Operative Dentists and Endodontists.
